Nicole here [leading lady of Sweet]… It’s crazy I feel like I have to say who I am – because I’m like never on here. I can’t remember the last blog post I wrote. So, excuse my grammatical errors – and my general ramblings… and thank goodness auto correct exists – or I’d be apologizing for that too.
I’m here because Tombow USA, the big amazing marker company – reached out to us and was awesome enough to think ‘hey, we’d make a great match’ … and yep, we do.
Remember Tiffany’s video on how to use Tombow markers? Everyone LOVED that video – even the Tombow peps, and I think that’s kinda how this all got started:
But, it’s not just Tiffany who has a love of Tombow brush tip markers, I do too! But, for a completely different purpose, hand lettering.
I’ve been a hand lettering geek from way back.
Anyway, I was the girl in high school that had journals that I passed back and forth with a friend and we made them all pretty with our various hand writing tricks. Little did I know, I was practicing my hand lettering skills.
Fast forward, I become an illustrator – and I just always had a knack for hand lettering. Mind you I don’t practice much – and frankly, I’m the master of *copying* …. I see some lettering I like, I use it to practice!
Here’s some of my tips:
Always start with pencil! [and always have a good eraser!] I really like the Tombow drawing set, it gives you a bunch of options from hard to soft graphite… and you’ll like that! Mono Drawing Set – Did I mention it’s like $6?
I also really like that eraser, because it has correction tape on the opposite end. And, I’m an OCD corrector tape girl from WAAYY back. Mono 2 Way Correction Did I mention it’s like $4?
The more you do it – the better you’ll get.
Start with graph paper. The lines will help you. Promise.
Use the dual brush pens – Dual Brush Markers
[you might see a sneak peek of a new April set here]
Relax, part of being good at lettering is relaxing. Trusting yourself that your hand will listen to your brain and do what it’s told. [my hand mostly does what’s it’s told… but, every once in a while – I have a stern talking to it]
Know what I love so much about Tombow pens? They’re really perfect for the beginner hand lettering gal. The person who wants to try, but – is nervous and maybe has a bit of the ‘hand shakes’… these pens are firm, and they’ll handle your nerves – promise!
Lastly, and just because I like giving more peeks of new stamp sets – I really LOVE [maybe more than Mr. Sweet – but, shhh don’t tell him] Tombow Fudenosuke Brush Pen.
It’s the perfect mini-calligraphy pen. Hard enough to write with – soft enough to do brush letters. Check out these two quick cards I made with sneak peeks of the April release:
[Did I mention this pen is like THREE BUCKS!?!?! — Um, yes please]
Ok, are you ready for an epic give-a-way… because let’s face it, I’m never on this blog anymore and you totally deserve something awesome for reading my post!
