Countdown To Thanksgiving!

Hello again, Sweet stampers!  It’s Meredith, and if you’re anything like me, you can’t fathom how the days fly by so quickly!  Can you believe it’s November already?!  In a blink, it will be Christmas!  But before we celebrate all things red and green, I definitely don’t want Thanksgiving to pass us by without notice…it’s my favorite holiday!  So to help keep track of the days, I thought it would be fun to create a dry erase Thanksgiving Countdown Board!  This is great for my littlest kiddos, too, so they can have a visual reminder of how many days are left, and then I don’t have to keep answering the question, “HOW many days until Grandma and Grandpa are here for Thanksgiving?”  🙂

This project is super simple, and oh so fun!  With a few basic materials and some Sweet, you’ll be in the Thanksgiving spirit in no time!  To create your own Thanksgiving Countdown Board, you’ll need:

  • 5×7″ photo frame (be sure it has the glass…that’s where you’ll use the dry erase marker to write the day number!)
  • 5×7″ piece of cream colored cardstock
  • 4.5″x6.5″ piece of woodgrain patterned paper (or you could use any pattern you’d like)
  • 6×6″ piece orange and white striped patterned paper (or any pattern of your choice)
  • 8.5×11″ piece of white cardstock
  • 2.5″ diameter fluted circle die cut (I didn’t have a die cut, so I simply traced a cookie cutter!)
  • 2″ diameter plain circle die cut
  • 1/2″ wide strips of solid yellow and orange colored cardstock
  • your favorite adhesive
  • VersaFine Black Onyx ink
  • Sweet Stamp Shop Blocked Alpha stamp set
  • Sweet Stamp Shop Outline Lower Alpha stamp set
  • Sweet Stamp Shop Girl Power stamp set
  • Sweet Stamp Shop Super Boy stamp set
  • Sweet Stamp Shop Fall into Christmas stamp set
  • fine point scissors
  • colored pencils (or coloring medium of your choice)
  • dry erase marker

Start by mounting your woodgrain patterned paper onto the cream colored cardstock to create your base.  Next, cut out your 2.5″ circle from the orange and white striped patterned paper.  Since I was tracing a cookie cutter, I made sure to trace it on the back side of the patterned paper so you wouldn’t see the pencil line once I cut out the circle.thanksgivingcountdownWEB03

Cut the 2″ circle out of the white cardstock.  Mount the smaller circle onto the larger fluted circle, and then mount the combined circles onto the base.  Using the VersaFine Onyx Black ink, stamp the girl from the Girl Power stamp set and the boy from the Super Boy stamp set, along with the Thanksgiving and fall icons from the Fall into Christmas stamp set, onto your white cardstock.

Again, using the VersaFine ink, stamp the “Days until” and “Thanksgiving” sentiments onto the strips of yellow and orange cardstock with the Blocked Alpha and Outline Lower Alpha stamp sets.  To add some detail, notch the ends of each strip of cardstock to create a banner shape.

Color your stamped images with your favorite coloring tools (I used colored pencils), adding any details you’d like with a black pen.  Then, cut out your stamped images with fine point scissors.

Mount the sentiment banners and all of the stamped images you cut out onto your cardstock base, making sure to trim any banner edges that overhang the sides, or your project won’t fit into the frame.

Pop your finished project into the frame and you’re done!  Don’t forget to write the number of days in the circle on the glass with the dry erase marker!
