Hi there! I don’t know about you, but I have tons of patterned paper laying around and I never use it! Why? I can never seem to find that perfect pattern to go with my project! So… I made my own. 🙂
And… I’m going to show you how to make your own patterns, too!
I started out with stamping some cupcakes from the Treats set. I’ve found that so many of the smaller stamps (and planner stamps) work great for custom backgrounds.
Then I added in the pies. I did one image at a time. It was easier for me to see where open space was and what would look right by doing one image at a time instead of bouncing back and forth between images.
Cue the donuts!
After they were added, I felt like I had enough.
Then, I took a panel and trimmed in on an angle. I wanted to add a sentiment using the fabulous Happy Birthday set, but I still wanted to make sure the pattern I just stamped stood out. So, an angle over the top of the pattern seemed like the perfect solution!
Oh, and I stamped on the back of the card, too. Pfft – this took me a while to stamp the patterns and color them in. No one is throwing this baby away without a guilt trip! 🙂 The I Made This set is one of my favorites for guilt tripping, in a fun way.
Then I simply colored in the images using colored pencils. You can use any medium you’d like or you can even leave it UNCOLORED (gasp!). Whatever works! There is no wrong way to do this.
I made might light source head on, from the front, so I shaded all images similarly.
Oh, and I colored the back too. Not that I wanted that to stand out or anything! 🙂
I added the front panel with foam adhesive and popped on a few sentiments. Voila!
So, what do you think? Have you made your own patterned background yet? Are you going to? If you do, make sure to share it with us on Instagram and tag @sweetstampshop!
