Hey there Sweet Stamp Shop fans! It’s Kristie Larsen here and I’m so glad to be back here at Sweet Stamp Shop to share with you some fun crafty ideas.
Today I wanted to talk about Paper Piecing. For those of you new to this whole stamping craze, paper piecing, is when you stamp images onto pattern paper and then trim them out to create a different look for your stamped image or scene of images. Today I used the cute stamps from His and Hers to paper piece some undies. Now, let me just say, if I could have undies with the cute patterns as some of the papers in my stash, I would be one happy camper! Could someone get on that soon please? I am sure these paper companies would have undies flying off the shelves if they did something like that. But that’s an entirely different post….
Let’s get started! First I chose some pattern paper. Now when you are picking paper, I find for small stamp images the 6×6 paper pads are better because the prints are smaller. This allots more pattern to be on your stamped image and it looks more ‘to scale’ if you know what I mean.
I then stamped a bunch of images on both patterns. At this point I had all the supplies out so I figured I should stamp a bunch! I takes no time at all and very little paper. I barely used half of each sheet.
Then I ran those little undies right through my sewing machine to create what I lovingly call an “undies banner”. You can sew on paper, without any problems. Just run whatever you want through that thing but be sure to not pull too tight on the threads because they can tear the paper. Also, once you use a needle on paper, it doesn’t run as smoothly through fabric, so designate one for each material. It adds such a fun detail to your card!
Then it was just a matter of assembling the card. I chose to use some Copic markers to color in the trim on my undies. I heat embossed the ‘cheers’ sentiment with some Metallic High Impact powder from WOW! My card needed a bit of something to ground it so I opted to add some paper strips to the bottom and a few gold sequins as a finishing touch. (sentiment from retired set)
And just for you, I created a second card cause I had so many undies lying around.
I started by die cutting some circles into a card base right where I wanted my undies to hang. I then trimmed a separate card stock panel to fit on the inside of the card and matched up the circles to die cut the circles into the second panel. Be sure to tape down those die cuts before cutting, it will help keep everything in place.
Next, I sandwiched a front and back underwear image to a thread using Glossy Accents which holds things pretty darn tight. I then glued them tightly into place so the undies would hang in the middle of each circle. I then glued on the separate panel to hide the strings.
I used the + and = sign from the His and Hers set as well as the ‘happy’ sentiment from Happy Birthday. A set that EVERYONE should own. I love every single font Nicole chose for that set. It’s so versatile! I also coloured the undies trim with Copics.
The die cuts hang just perfectly in the circles and danced in the breeze of my AC as I took my photos. It almost smelled like freshly hung laundry!
Here is a front shot and an inside shot of the hanging undies!:
And there you have it! Simple paper piecing technique to make up some fun cards. You could easily do this for planners, layouts, invitations, cupcake toppers, you name it! Paper Piecing can be so much fun and great for all sorts of occasions.
I hope you found something useful and fun here today! Please leave me comment if you have any questions or would like to see a new technique. We love to help you learn new things here at Sweet Stamp Shop as we learn ourselves!
Thanks for joining me today.
