Mashed and Masculine

Hey there sweet friends! It’s Laura, back for one more Sweet Stamp Mash-Up. For the past few weeks, I’ve been here on the Sweet blog, sharing how I mash up two sweet stamp sets to create one new and often unexpected creation! Today, we’re going all out and I’ve mashed up THREE stamp sets, just for kicks. To create this hip, masculine card (seriously, creating a guy-friendly card can be so difficult sometimes!) I used the stamp sets Hip Veggie, One Word and Turnip.
I did a little bit of paper-piecing on the turnip, and then I covered him with a nice thick layer of dimensional glaze to give him a gorgeous shine (which is always difficult to capture in photos!) When I’m creating more masculine cards I think about a few things (these certainly aren’t RULES but I’ve found for myself and my crafting style, these work for me):
*COLORS – leaning towards neutrals is usually a safe way to go
*MATERIALS – add metals or twines rather than ribbons and fluff
*KEEP IT SIMPLE – keep embellishments, and colors simple.  I save the paper flowers, giant bows, and  colorful busyness for my crafty girlfriends!
On this card, I added a little splatter of silver paint, a simple mini paperclip, and then called it a day. Sometimes simple IS the sweetest. But after that, it’s  fun to finish off a card on the inside too. I just couldn’t resist adding the punny saying, Turnip the Beet on the inside, and added a little more paint splatter.
I think this card would pass the test for a guy’s birthday, don’t you? Do you have any tips or tricks for creating masculine cards? I’d love to hear them! Leave a comment and share your thoughts! Thanks so much for joining me today!
