Oregon travel mini – AHOY! kit

Explore album2Hello friends, Michelle here!! This is my first blog post for Sweet Stamp Shop and I’m pretty excited to share with you a mini-album that I’ve been working on highlighting photos from a recent trip my family took to the Oregon coast. We only went for a few days so it was more of a mini-vacation. And since I had too many photos for a layout but not enough for an entire big album I though it’d be fun to create a mini-album.

Plus, the contents of the AHOY! kit were perfect for my photos and mini-books are a lot of fun!!

I’ll be sharing just some of the photos from my album…if I shared them all this would be a really long post! But hopefully you’ll get the idea of what I’ve created here. I started with cutting up lots of patterned papers into a 4×6 size. Then I added elements of the AHOY! kit along with some of my other favorite SSS stamps.

I love the “Explore more” card from the kit so I used that as my cover. On the inside I started with that great stamp from Across the Miles stamp set to set the travel theme of my album. I water colored on the image simply by dipping a watercolor pen into some of the ink on the lid of my ink pad (I usually dab a bit off on a scratch piece of paper before coloring on my image).

Explore album13I also created “sections” by printing out a photo on cardstock and then stamping the location were were at with the outline lower alpha stamp set. When you print a photo on cardstock you don’t have to worry about your ink smearing! I love this alpha stamp and I used it many times throughout my book. I like to overlap the letters just a bit. That way you don’t have to worry about them being level & I think it makes it look a bit more cohesive. I also colored in some of them on my pages with Copic markers.

Explore album12Then for the album I mixed in ephemera from our trip (postcards, brochures, etc) in with a mixture of 4×6 and smaller photos. I also added some of the journaling tags from the kit. I love when there’s different size pages inside a mini-album!

Explore album16When I stamped those waves I actually stamped several times to get the shading from my ink.

Explore album22Along with the stamp sets mentioned above I also used Beach Bum and Fishy. All of those along with the beach/summer/nautical theme of the AHOY! kit worked just perfectly with my photos!

Explore album17I love seeing pages peeking out from other pages so I created that a few times in my book with the smaller cards from the kit.

Explore album18I used a Bind-it-all to hold my album together but you could easily use a ring (or two) or even a pre-made album.

I hope this inspires you to create a little mini-album of your own!
