Color Play #2: Watercolor Background Mother’s Day Card

Happy, Sweet Friday!! I am so excited to share today’s card with you all! Watercolor is such a big trend right now in paper crafting industry and what sweeter way to give it a try than to combine with the sweet stamps? Mother’s Day is just around the corner (literally!) and I thought it would be super fun to create a card for all the moms out there as a new project for our Color Play series.

Watercolor background helps your focal point to shine easily. It is also a great way to keep your card clean and simple with a nice color effect! You can mix and choose any colors you want to put together – for this card I am sticking with different shades of pink.

Best way for a blended, soft watercolor look is to saturate your watercolor paper with clean water first. Make sure to wet it nicely so when you put different colors they would blend with minimal effort, creating a nice, naturally blended look. I used Distress Inks for my background, but you can use any inks you have or any watercolor mediums you have. Colors I used here are Tattered Rose, Victorian Velvet, Spun Sugar, and Word Lipstick.

You can let it sit and dry for an hour or so (depending on how much water you worked with), or you can use a heat tool to dry it faster. I personally like drying naturally.

For our main point and sentiment, I used Hats stamp set from our recent release. It is filled with fun and adorable images you can color along with lots of fun sentiments. For this card, I decided to focus on the greeting and put together the “MOM, My mom is everything” sentiment to go right on the center of the card.

Easy peasy, right? Please enjoy my newest video tutorial below to see how I created this card from start to finish. I shared few tips and trick you can give a try. Thanks so much for stopping by! Have a sweet weekend!!
