Sweet and simple go hand in hand, and it’s the way I create! I like quick and easy, but packing a creative, fun punch. (I think that’s why I love Sweet stamps, because Nicole makes it so EASY to create sweet and simple designs!)
Today I thought I’d show you a sweet and simple project, featuring stamps from Too Hip, Elegant Sentiments, and Happy Hour. Next, I’ll share some of my favorite card-making tips and tricks based upon this card.
Tips and tricks:
1.) For quick and easy card-making, use paper from one pad or collection. You know they’ll match and coordinate! It can be fun to pull from scraps, or to spend time hunting for the perfect paper. But sometimes it’s refreshing to just grab a 6×6 stack and go for it!
2. Grouping elements in odd numbers are most pleasing to the eye. Three hippos makes a bigger impact than 2 would have. I put the green one in the center, to balance out between the two mostly blue ones.
3. Refresh your creativity by combining stamp sets. The sentiment, “Well aren’t we fancy” is from Happy Hour. It’s original purpose certainly has nothing to do with hippos in party attire. But it works, and it added a dose of humor. In addition, I combined two stamps to create the “Happy Birthday” sentiment. “Happy” is from the “Happy New Year” stamp – I just inked up only the word I wanted. Then I paired it with “Birthday” from Elegant Sentiments. Make your stamps work for you!
4. Fourth and final tip. I learned from one of my very favorite card-making friends, the power of little details. These hippos would have been cute and dandy on their own, but isn’t every animal cuter with a party hat?! Also, it’s hard to see in this photo, but I folded out the ears a bit on each hippo. It added a bit of dimension and it was a good finishing touch.
I hope these sweet and simple tips have sparked an idea for you, or they’ll help you when a project is just not quite coming together. I love to learn from other card-makers, and to glean skills, and ideas as I peruse galleries and blogs! It’s fun to learn and be inspired! Thanks so much for stopping by the Sweet Stamp Shop blog today! Be back tomorrow – it’s time for April’s second new release! (Seriously. . . .It. Is. Awesome!)
