Spiffy new blog.
Website showcasing the products you love!
Yep, we’ve been busy around the Sweet shop – from creating new products to moving our blog to its new wordpress home… (isn’t it so nice?!)
Tomorrow is the big release day, we’re releasing 4 new stamp sets (that I’m pretty sure you’re going to squeal when you see – eek!) But, first – I wanted to tell you about something really cool that’s been going on in the background of the Sweet shop for a while…
First, a little back story…
I started Sweet Stamp Shop years ago – after I sold some sketches to another stamp company. I really didn’t know too much about this industry – didn’t have many connections… didn’t know much about illustrating or graphic designing – or really how to run a business. I was 26 and didn’t know exactly who I was or where I wanted to go – but, ever the risk taker – off I went and started Sweet.
Three years raced by…
I met people – learned about business – marketing – and product development. I taught myself graphic design and the programs that accompany that. I worked hard, harder and longer then I had ever worked at anything. I found that I had passion for business – for crafting – and most importantly – for people. I enjoyed greatly the opportunity to mentor other designers any way I could –
I gained confidence – and I built a Sweet business that I’m proud of… and along the way I’ve always thought that when the time was right I would want to reach out and offer my lessons – my hardships – my triumphs – my experience to others who might be interested in taking a similar risk.
Last year, the opportunity presented itself –
Alyssa, our only other SWEET illustrator, and I were discussing how hard this industry is for designers to ‘break’ into. How closed off our industry seems in helping each other grow. Let’s face it, we’re a women dominated industry – and while that can be super empowering – it can also be, eh – a bit catty. You know, a place where you don’t feel like you can turn anywhere because we’re all so consumed with ‘the bottom line’… (whatever that means)
Our bottom line?
We’re passionate young women who’ve seen our share of amazing triumphs and some ‘shake our heads’ bad moves. We’ve been around the block – and around again – and again… and, we’re ready to provide some of the directions that we just didn’t have.
Alyssa and I started to outline the idea of an intern program. A program for our design friends – and their friends – to learn HOW to make their dreams a reality. How to illustrate for the paper craft industry – and ALL the ‘stuff’ that goes with that.
The Sweet Intern Program was born. We invited some of our friends (and asked if they might have a friend or two interested) to apply for our first intern program term.
We’re coming to the end of our first term with the Sweet Intern Program – and it was more than either of us expected it would be. It was the greatest blessing and a total success. I’m so proud of these ladies and how far they’ve come.
Take a moment and read about our intern program – and meet our current interns – at our ‘Sweet Intern’ page (you’ll see the tab above).
If after you’ve read all about it – and you think you might like an opportunity to apply – email us at email@example.com – we’re starting our new term in April.
So, you’ll promise to come back tomorrow and see the new release – yes? Ok.
See you then! <3
